There are several ways to treat the signs of aging: injection, peeling and laser resurfacing are examples. However, when the fat has to be sculpted, the muscles repositioned and the excess skin removed, a more in-depth method must be used: the facelift. On Nuns' Island, Dr Joseph Bou-Merhi practices this surgery, avoiding any exaggerated stretching of the features, always allowing a natural result. You will look rested and refreshed.
The facelift is adapted to each face, targeting the elements that contribute to the aging effect, in terms of fat, muscles and skin. In fact, the work done under the skin is often the most important and allows the result to last. A facelift allows several cosmetic corrections:
Creases between the eyebrows
Cheekbones (to restore fullness)
Jowls (to eliminate them)
Neck (to firm it up by rectifying fat deposits, muscle relaxation and excess skin)
The incisions are hidden in the natural contours of the ear, sometimes behind it, or in the thickness of the hair. No scar is really visible. If two vertical bands are visible at the neck, a small incision will be placed in the natural fold under the chin to allow attachment of the two edges of the neck muscle that cause these bands. The wrinkles around the lips respond very well to dermabrasion, which will be done at the same time as the facelift. Finally, eyelid surgery usually accompanies the procedure. Also, in order to raise the eyebrows, a face lift is often desirable.
Both local anesthesia and general anesthesia can be used at the patient's choice. Most swelling and bruising will be gone after two weeks and the majority of patients will return to work after this time. Some prefer to take a week longer. The redness of the scars can easily be camouflaged by makeup. Tissue flexibility and skin sensitivity return after a few months. In the hands of a certified and experienced plastic surgeon, the risks are minimal.
A single facelift is enough to roll back the clock by several years, although the process of aging continues inexorably. Some people want to do another facelift after seven, eight or ten years; the intervention is then much less extensive.
