The eyes are the most expressive part of your face. It is also where the first signs of aging appear, especially through wrinkles and puffiness. You look tired even when you are not. This is why eyelid correction (blepharoplasty) is often the first rejuvenation operation people consider. Dr Joseph Bou-Merhi, renowned plastic surgeon, practices eyelid surgery in Montreal. His great experience and commitment to the satisfaction of his patients ensures a personalized approach that respects your physiognomy.
Blepharoplasty has evolved very quickly, from a simple excision of skin and fat to a much more sophisticated operation. Only a decade ago, it was still a risky and unpredictable intervention. It has since become a reliable surgery thanks to which the embarrassing drooping eyelid effect is effectively rectified to give a rejuvenated appearance.
Correction of the Upper Eyelid
The upper eyelid is corrected by recreating the fold that has often disappeared due to excess skin, muscle and fat. If damage (fascia) is found at the attachment of the levator muscle, it is repaired. The incision is placed in the crease of the eyelid and quickly becomes virtually invisible.
Some individuals have excess fat without the excess skin. This fat can then be removed conjunctively and leave no scar.
Correction of the Lower Eyelid
Dr Joseph Bou-Merhi eliminates ectropions (where the lower eyelid turns outwards). He gives the eyelid tone by reattaching the cantal ligament which suspends the lower eyelid from the orbital bone. This maneuver corrects the “round eye” appearance, replacing it with a more pleasing almond shape. The muscle of the lower eyelid is also tightened. The incision is placed just below the edge of the lower lashes.
Eyelid surgery causes swelling and bruising that disappears after two weeks. In fact, with good makeup or tinted glasses, many people go back to work after a week. On the other hand, tissue flexibility may take several months to return. Local anesthesia is always used and tranquilizers are administered so that the patient does not even feel the injections. There is very little pain experienced during or after this operation, only some mild discomfort.
For eyes that look younger and more refreshed, don’t wait – consult Dr Joseph Bou-Merhi.
